Glulam modules with versatile functions – adaptable to people’s needs and site conditions.

In early 2020, the Street Moves initiative launched on three streets in Stockholm: Tjärhovsgatan, Hälsingegatan, and Parmmätargatan. Stakeholders in electric micromobility and car-sharing services were invited to participate, alongside the Swedish Transport Agency and Stockholm City’s Traffic Office.

LundbergDesign, the design consultant for Street Moves in Stockholm, developed sketches and ideas based on the diverse needs and functions discussed with stakeholders. These ideas resulted in adaptable glulam modules, designed to be reconfigured according to the unique needs of each site and its users.

When the modules were tested on the three streets, they quickly became popular. People parked their bikes and used the seating for short breaks. A follow-up survey revealed that seven out of ten respondents supported testing similar modules on other streets across Stockholm. After their initial use in Stockholm, the modules were loaned to cities like Uppsala and Borlänge, serving as a foundation for the ongoing development of Street Moves.

While Street Moves was being tested on Tjärhovsgatan, Hälsingegatan, and Parmmätargatan, another Vinnova-funded project, Stockholm Framtidsgator, was also exploring sustainable and healthy mobility solutions under the same mission.
