Conference
Every year since 2020, ArkDes, together with the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning, the Swedish National Heritage Board, and the Public Art Agency Sweden, organises a conference where architects, urban planners, designers, artists, municipal, regional, and national officials, and politicians meet and share experiences in the field of the Designed Living Environment.
In the packed venue, 300 people are participating, and around 2000 people are attending digitally, all eager to exchange knowledge to create and manage environments that are sustainable, aesthetically pleasing, and functional. The conference invites national and international figures in architecture, design, art, and cultural heritage to present new ideas about projects and methods that contribute to creating environments where people want to live and work.
Each year, the winners of the ‘Årets strålkastare’ award are announced – recognizing those who’ve set the bar high in the field of Designed Living Environments.

Collaboration on Policy for Designed Living Environment
ArkDes, together with the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning ↗, the Swedish National Heritage Board ↗, and the Public Art Agency Sweden ↗, has a government mandate to promote the development of the national Policy for Designed Living Environment. In this capacity, ArkDes functions as a knowledge source and platform for exploring, monitoring, and disseminating knowledge about designed living environments, particularly in the fields of architecture and design.
The joint mission of the four agencies involves monitoring and spreading knowledge about the policy area across Sweden. This is achieved, among other means, through an annual conference where actors from the national, municipal, regional, and private sectors meet both physically and digitally to discuss and listen to inspiring and forward-looking examples in architecture, design, art and cultural heritage.
