How can Kordahusen in Alviks strand be transformed through minimal intervention? This question was at the centre of Team Fredriksson-Ahlgren-Wingårdhs’ work exploring how innovative design approaches can support the transformation of existing buildings, as part of the practice-based research project Transformation – RE:purpose.
Through an open call, three interdisciplinary teams were selected to explore possible ways of supporting the transition within the construction and real estate sectors towards increased management and transformation of existing buildings.
Team Fredriksson-Ahlgren-Wingårdhs focused on Kordahusen in Alviks strand. Through plan studies, models and a full-scale prototype, the team investigated how existing office environments can be transformed into housing and shared functions with as few interventions as possible. Particular focus was placed on preserving existing structures, technical systems and materials.
In the report, the team presents its transformation proposal together with possible policy changes related to building expertise, more flexible planning regulations, reuse and certification systems. The proposals demonstrate how buildings can be transformed gradually over time and how different functions can coexist within the same building.
The work was carried out within the practice-based research project Transformation – RE:purpose, a collaboration between ArkDes, Boverket ↗, Riksantikvarieämbetet ↗ and Fastighetsägarna ↗, funded by Vinnova ↗.
