Report Release RE:purpose – Design as a Tool for Policy Development

Collage: Team Nya värden i det gamla. 2026. Turitzhuset in Bagaregården, Gothenburg. Illustration of proposed transformation.

How can we transform and develop what already exists instead of demolishing and building new? Welcome to the report release of the practice-based research project RE:purpose, where three interdisciplinary teams have explored how design can contribute to policy development.

Through case studies of Kordahusen in Stockholm, Turitzhuset in Gothenburg and Förvaltningshuset at Umeå campus, the teams developed innovative management and transformation proposals, and identified concrete policy changes that could strengthen incentives for adaptive reuse in the future.

On 26 May, all project partners, teams, property owners, developers, municipalities, public agencies, researchers and practitioners will gather at ArkDes. During the afternoon, the results will be presented and discussed, focusing on which regulations and practices need to change to create attractive living environments that make use of existing values.

Welcome to an inspiring afternoon on innovative policy development!

The conference is aimed at those working at municipal, regional or national level, within academia, or as private actors in the built environment sector.
