Room for Debate: The New Building Regulations – Reality and Research

Photo: Anki Kaplan Wikström. Visby. 2024. What will happen to windows in future housing when requirements are removed from building regulations?

Join us for a discussion on the qualities of housing, its significance for public health, and Sweden’s new building regulations.

Mental health issues are on the rise, while the concepts of attractiveness and safety dominate societal debate. At the same time, Sweden’s National Board of Housing, Building and Planning introduces new building regulations that significantly lower the standards for quality housing.

What makes a home truly livable? How does its design affect our experience and health?
Join Ola Nylander (Professor, Centre for Housing Architecture, Chalmers), Arne Lowden (Researcher, Department of Psychology, Stockholm University), and Tobias Olsson (Director, Architects Sweden) in a panel discussion about the qualities of housing, public health, and the implications of the new regulations.

Schedule:

12:00 Lunch served

12:30 Panel discussion

13:30 Avslut

Through ‘Room for Debate’, ArkDes invites stakeholders to discuss pressing issues, in this case, the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning’s new building regulations coming into effect on 2 July. In collaboration with Architects Sweden and the Stockholm Architectural Association, ArkDes is hosting a series of discussions centred around a physical example apartment designed by architect Love Di Marco, based on the new building regulations. The week includes additional programs and tours on the theme. Also, see February 11 – ‘Room for Debate: The Good Home?’ and February 14 – ‘Room for Debate: The Role of Architects and Regulations in Housing Architecture’ by Stockholm Architects Association. This event is organized by Architects Sweden.
