ArkDes Collection: The Ideas that Shaped Modern Sweden

ArkDes’s collection comprises over four million objects created by architects and designers such as Gunnar Asplund, Léonie Geisendorf, and Sigurd Lewerentz. For the first time, the audience will have the opportunity to delve into stories and original works from the museum’s vast archive.

During the tour, we delve into 150 years of Swedish architecture and design history, from the initial ideas on the drawing board to the shaping of our cities by architecture and design.

The tour lasts approximately one hour and is offered in ArkDes Collection.

Designing Motherhood: Things That Make and Break Our Births

Did you know that the breast pump is a Swedish invention and that menstrual cups existed as far back as the 1930s? Designing Motherhood is an exhibition about how design has influenced human reproduction to enable, facilitate, or prevent our arrival into the world. Book a tour among the 300 items of Designing Motherhood and learn more about Swedish and global challenges, societal norms, and taboos surrounding reproductive health.

The tour lasts approximately one hour and is offered in the temporary exhibition Designing Motherhood (01.10.2024–31.08.2025).

Creating a new museum

ArkDes reopens with a new programme of activities including a new entrance, a refreshed identity, and a renewed visitor experience. Designed by Stockholm-based architecture office Arrhov Frick, the new spaces reuse elements of the museum’s former exhibitions and environments, providing an innovative and sustainable display method for the museum.

During the tour, we visit the whole museum, with short introductions to the different areas and exhibitions, and with a in-depth presentation of Arrhov Frick’s design process.

The tour lasts approximately one hour.
