How might the streets of the future look? ArkDes is launching Living Streets, a digital classroom resource for Upper Secondary Schools.
Together with teachers and students at Anna Whitlock Upper Secondary School in Stockholm, ArkDes has developed a model that schools can use free of charge. The resource makes it possible to carry out a design project that meets several goals in the curriculum. It can be used in courses such as design, architecture, construction, visual arts, CAD, art, and cultural history. Living Streets can be implemented at three levels: large, medium, and small, depending on how much support the school wants from ArkDes.
The resource is inspired by the research project Street Moves, which ArkDes carried out with support from Vinnova between 2020 and 2023. The project aimed to transform streets through design. Together with municipalities, design teams, and citizens, solutions were tested directly in the street. The goal was to create sustainable, healthy, and vibrant streets. Streets that strengthen community and well-being, and where people can meet, engage, and contribute to a better urban environment.
