Report: Den onde, den gode, den fule

The project Den onde, den gode, den fule (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly) addressed the question of how an abandoned railway area in Tibro could be revived through a playful and inclusive citizen dialogue. The goal was to engage residents and give them an active role in a long-term urban development process, while also generating interest in an area that has been unused since the railway was closed in 2003.

The project, which was part of ArkDes Open Call 2019, focused on participation and quality in public spaces. By mapping Tibro’s local resources and craftsmanship tradition, innovative solutions were developed, such as temporary structures and a park for intergenerational meetings. The residents contributed over 260 ideas, and together with the team, consisting of Tibro municipality ↗, Anders Berensson Architects ↗, and Folk Lab ↗, a vision was created that combined small-scale activities with larger ideas for the area. Local actors and surplus materials were used to create functional and sustainable solutions.

The work was documented in a detailed project report in the form of a project diary. Several of the ideas from the project have now become part of Tibro’s downtown development plan ↗, which was adopted by the municipality in 2024.
