Unboxing: The Heart of Södermalm

In the beginning of the 1980s, Stockholm faced a major transformation, as the heavily trafficked street Södergatan and the deserted rail yard at Södra station was replaced by new businesses and housing.

Together with architectural historian Helena Mattsson and urban historian Håkan Forsell, we showcase some of the imaginative early-stage ideas. Examining original drawings and works by architects such as Léonie Geisendorf and Bengt Lindroos, we take a closer look at the Södermalm that never became reality.
