Goodbye Cruising

What happens to cruising culture when the car is no longer the undisputed king of the road? Meet designer Lotta Lampa in a conversation about a (motor)culture in transition.

Wunderbaums, chrome, and community – cruising culture means a great deal to many people. But the love of the car is facing strong headwinds. With the project Goodbye Cruising (Hejdå Raggen), currently on display in the exhibition ArkDes Collection, as a point of departure, we invite designer and car enthusiast Lotta Lampa to a conversation about the future of cruising culture and what happens when a old way of life collides with a new vision of the city, where the car is no longer in the driver’s seat.

About the project Goodbye Cruising

In September 2022, car enthusiasts take a symbolic final lap around Kiruna´s town centre – a farewell drive before the old parts of the city are demolished. The initiative, Goodbye Cruising, by designer Lotta Lampa, marks the moment with specially designed flags flying at half-mats across the town. Kiruna has a strong car cultur, ith a cruising club and over 300 registrered EPA tractors. But as the new town is planned around walking and cycling, there´s less space left for cars.
