Dates to make a note of:

Pre-registration is open until 17 November. Entries must be submitted between 19 and 21 November. The last date to vote is 16 December. The winners will be announced on 19 December at 13.00 at ArkDes. You can pick up your house from ArkDes between 11 and 13 January.

About the jury:

A jury selects a winner in each category. There is also a prize for the public’s favourite, which the public can vote for until 16 December.

Groups and Schools:

Larger groups, preschools and school classes are welcome to visit the gingerbread house exhibit by themselves.

This year’s theme: Together

Aren’t most things far easier when we get a helping hand? For example, it’s usually easiest to build a gingerbread house together with someone else. Perhaps you missed someone last year, when it was more difficult to see each other. What are you longing for now that we can all start meeting up again as usual? What do you associate with the word “together”? At any rate, we’re longing to see you again and to see your gingerbread houses and be together again at the museum.

So how does it work?

It’s up to you how you choose to interpret this year’s theme – the more interpretations, the more fun the exhibition. When you submit your gingerbread house to us, you have an opportunity to attach a descriptive text about your entry (max. 200 characters). The text is important to help the jury understand your thought processes when you created your entry.

To participate in the Gingerbread Exhibition, register at pepparkaka@arkdes.se. We can accept up to 200 entries, so it’s first come, first served. The exhibition is open to everyone and the participants themselves decide which category they want to be in.

Categories:
• Architects, designers and professional bakers
• Children under 12
• Anyone else who loves baking

Pre-registration
We accept pre-registrations. If you already know that you will want to participate, e-mail pepparkaka@arkdes.se and say which category you want to compete in. Pre-registration is open until 17 November. Entries must be submitted between 19 and 21 November.

Competition rules

• The base of the gingerbread house must be no bigger than 40×40 cm. This does not mean that the base has to be 40×40 cm, it can be smaller. Bear in mind that it often looks better if the base is in proportion to the house itself. No part of the house may go beyond the 40×40 cm. There is no restriction on height.
• The gingerbread house may only contain edible ingredients. (The base, however, does not have to be edible.)
• All submitted entries are exhibited, but ArkDes reserves the right to refuse entries that violate Swedish law, are advertising for commercial purposes, contain party political messages or are otherwise considered inappropriate or unethical.

FAQs

Q: Do you have to make a HOUSE?
A: Gingerbread House is an exhibition about engaging in architecture in a playful, unpretentious way. At the same time, the built environment consists of many different elements, and building with gingerbread dough offers excellent opportunities to use your imagination and create new designs and exciting solutions. We therefore do not disqualify entries that do not look like traditional houses, but we particularly welcome entries that are recognisably something usually designed by architects in reality!

Q: What do you mean by party political messages and advertising for commercial purposes?
A: Logos, names of political parties and slogans are not permitted on the houses. Neither are entries that could be perceived as being part of a political campaign or debate. If in doubt, contact us at pepparkaka@arkdes.se

Q: What are the prizes?
A: The winners and those who come second in each category will receive a trophy, a special engraved baking tin and a secret design gift. The winners in the “Children under 12” category will also win a trophy and baking tin as well as a prize package tailored to their ages.

Q: Will I get my gingerbread house back when the exhibition is over?
A: Yes, you can pick your house up from ArkDes between 11 and 13 January. When you submit your gingerbread house to us, you agree that we will keep it until then. In other words, you will NOT be able to pick up your house earlier.
