Report: Augmented Dialogue

The project Augmented Dialogue, part of ArkDes Open Call 2019, aimed to make dialogue processes around urban development more inviting, enjoyable, and inspiring. The goal was to create a digital platform where residents can easily provide input and engage with the municipality’s development plans.
In traditional planning consultations, it is often difficult for citizens to get involved, and participants are not always representative of all societal groups. To address this, a prototype for an AR-based mobile app, Stadslabbet, was developed by Utopia Arkitekter ↗ and Doberman ↗. The app visualizes building projects in 1:1 scale on-site and offers features for commenting and discussing proposals, making the process more accessible and engaging.
Through interviews and workshops with various stakeholders, the need to make the urban planning process more understandable was identified, along with the need for tools that focus dialogue on areas where residents can have an impact. The prototype was tested at Hornsbruksgatan and has led to further development and collaborations. The final project report provides more insights into the results and the app’s potential.
