Smoothies, Museums and Airports
Stockholm Design Lab: Smoothies, Museums and Airports
Cities are complex. Graphic design is necessary in order to make them comprehensible and navigable. We experience it through signs, stickers, tags, apps, road signs, demo placards, and take-away cups.
This exhibition shows projects that have become part of many people’s everyday life, all created by Stockholm Design Lab – a design agency founded in 1998. Over the last two decades it has designed identities for, among others, Scandinavian Airlines, Åhléns department store, and Moderna Museet.
Approaching graphic design as a common good, and with an accessible design idiom, Stockholm Design Lab has had a major impact on the appearance of public spaces in Sweden today. Through the identities it has created for some of the country’s best-known brands and institutions, the agency has made a unique mark on virtually every shopping street and town centre in Sweden.
Boxen at ArkDes
Boxen ↗ was a platform for fast-changing, experimental projects at ArkDes. It provided space for alternative voices to inspire discussions about architecture, design, and their relationship to society by promoting radical and responsive installations, exhibitions, events and dialogues by and between architects, designers, and thinkers. Designed by the emerging architecture studio Dehlin Brattgård ↗, Boxen opened in 2018 and was dismantled in 2023. All materials have been reused in the 2024 redesign of the museum’s spaces, designed by Arrhov Frick ↗.
