Meet the Architect Duo Arrhov Frick and learn more about how they took on the exciting task of redesigning ArkDes.

2022 Arrhov Frick was given the assignment to redesign ArkDes´ exhibition halls, which amongst other things, displays ArkDes Collection that depict 150 years of Swedish architecture and design history. The Architect Duo developed a number of strategies, rather than a complete concept, that would form the new museum.

Arrhov Frick choose to make architecture of existing materials, to utilize the the vast amount of steel, wood, and glass already available in the exhibition halls. These materials were repurposed to create new, dynamic structures, offering a fresh perspective on the collection. Between 70-100% of all material has been repurposed, first dismantled and then reconstructed into new forms.

Arrhov Frick´s vision is viewing the museum as a studio: an open space where various activities can coexist and cooperate: education, workshops and installations. A place where one can explore history, but also develop new opportunities for objects, buildings and urban development.

Founded in 2010 in Stockholm, Arrhov Frick has been recognized as one of Sweden’s most compelling architectural firms. They have received nominations for various prestigious awards, including the Mies van der Rohe Award and the Kasper Salin Prize for Sweden’s best building of the year. Locally, Arrhov Frick won the TV4 Grand Designs House of the Year 2022 award in Sweden.
