Among palm and cacao trees, a new mining community emerges: Yekepa – a Swedish industrial dream in northern Liberia in West Africa. It is established through an international collaboration to enable iron mining and begins to take shape in the early 1960s.
In this Unboxing, we open collections from architects Walter Bauer and Anders Tengbom, unbox original drawings and follow how the model community was formed. Together with ArkDes guest researcher Elisa Maria López and architect Erik Stenberg, who grew up in Yekepa, we take a closer look at how the prefabricated dream took shape.
The conversation is led by curators Frida Rosenberg and Max Ahrent.
