Unboxing: Asplund’s magic carpets

In collaboration with textile artist Elsa Gullberg, architect Gunnar Asplund designed 17 carpets for the Gothenburg City Hall.

Gullberg herself wove the carpets, blending organic natural motifs with graphic patterns and clean lines.

In this Unboxing, we highlight Asplund’s collection alongside design expert Kerstin Wickman. We explore the sketch process behind these unique carpets and delve deeper into the collaboration with Gullberg. Among patterns and fringes, we take a closer look at sketches and ideas that never made it beyond the drawing board.
