How can seemingly outdated resources be repurposed? Can technical facilities and industrial sites be transformed to meet future needs through innovative design and management? These are the questions that the interdisciplinary team VERK-SAM explores in a new report.
The report is part of VERKET, a practice-based research project in collaboration between ArkDes and Ulricehamn Municipality. In the project, team VERK-SAM has examined how Ulricehamn’s wastewater treatment plant and its surroundings can be transformed as the site transitions from a closed industrial area to a public space.
The report presents strategies, methods, and design proposals for the development and management of the treatment plant, including its existing buildings and basins. The proposal envisions the site gradually evolving into a space for all Ulricehamn residents and visitors—a place for recreation, learning, and food production, where circular synergies between built structures, water, and greenery are fostered.
