ArkDes to Be Integrated into Moderna Museet

Today, the Ministry of Culture announced that ArkDes and the Public Art Agency Sweden (Statens konstråd) will be integrated into Moderna Museet.

– The government has today decided to integrate ArkDes into Moderna Museet. We are grateful and proud of the strong support we have received throughout the inquiry, and that so many have recognised ArkDes’s important role in urban and societal development. My responsibility now is to safeguard the organisation and its staff, and to work collaboratively with Moderna Museet and the Public Art Agency Sweden to find a way forward, says Karin Nilsson, Acting Director of ArkDes.

The new agency will come into effect on 1 January 2026.

Background

In June 2024, the Ministry of Culture launched an inquiry to examine how the responsibilities of ArkDes could be integrated into Moderna Museet, and whether it would be appropriate to include the responsibilities of the Public Art Agency Sweden as well.
