Conference 2021: Designed Living Environment and Democracy

In 2021, democracy in Sweden celebrates its 100th anniversary.

At the conference, we explore various aspects of democracy through themes such as citizen participation, the development of community life, the evolution of our public environments, who influences what is built, altered, and demolished, as well as what we preserve.

About the conference

Between 2020 and 2024, ArkDes together with the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning ↗, the Swedish National Heritage Board ↗  and Public Art Agency Sweden ↗ jointly organized an annual conference on the Policy for Designed Living Environment. The conference brought together architects, urban planners, designers, artists, and officials from local, regional, and national levels—both on-site and online—to share ideas and explore forward-looking examples in architecture, design, art, and cultural heritage.
