She built the house for herself. Unfortunately, it became a masterpiece.
Eileen Gray’s white villa by the sparkling Mediterranean was a tribute to love—a love that fell apart shortly after the house was completed. When star architect Le Corbusier visited the villa, he became obsessed with its perfect form and, against Gray’s wishes, painted large frescoes on its walls. E.1027 is a magnificent hybrid film combining theater, archival footage, and newly shot scenes from the house on the French Riviera. A story of a woman’s artistic power and a man’s attempt to dominate it.
Short introduction to Eileen Gray by Frida Rosenberg, curator, ArkDes before the screening.
