At the beginning of the 20th century, the expansion of hydroelectric power starts in earnest. Swedish architects and engineers become adept at designing and building for hydroelectric power. Over time, water
engineering becomes a specialised expertise, and Swedish know-how is exported for large and prestigious tasks in other parts of the world.
In 1958, Svampen is built in Örebro. The water tower quickly becomes a beloved symbol of the city and so well-known that the architects are asked to design a forest of similar, striped, towers in the desert in Kuwait.
In the same country, Malene Bjørn designs three shimmering blue globes. With their location by the shores of the Persian Gulf, the three water towers are today a symbol for Kuwait.
