Architecture and design aim to unite. The Stockholm Public Library is built to make knowledge accessible to the many. Public spaces become more numerous in the 20th century with museums, cultural centres, and shopping streets built all over Sweden.

These environments are intended to be experienced and appreciated by as many people as possible. The scale of architecture also becomes larger. When Scandinavia’s largest suburban centre is inaugurated in southern Stockholm in 1968, protests begin immediately: Tear down Skärholmen!
