How are artistic perspectives and the values of public art incorporated into the design of sustainable living environments? This was one of the questions explored by ten cross-disciplinary teams through the call Designed living environment – architecture, form, design, art and cultural heritage in public spaces<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Since 2018, Sweden has had a national policy for what is called Policy for Designed Living Environment<\/em> – one of the few countries in the world to do so. In short, the policy focuses on the designed environments around us, with a special emphasis on architecture, design, public art, and cultural heritage. When different art forms and artistic processes are included in the design of shared spaces, they can bring new ideas and enrich both cities and rural areas.<\/p>\n

The call aimed to fund research projects that would generate new knowledge about how people’s living environments are designed. It sought to highlight artistic perspectives and the role of public art alongside architecture, design, and cultural heritage in creating sustainable environments.<\/p>\n

The goal was for the funded projects to contribute to the national objectives for the Policy for Designed Living Environment<\/em>, as well as to Sweden’s national cultural policy goals and national cultural environment goals. The results were also intended to support the UN’s New Urban Agenda and Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities in Agenda 2030.<\/p>\n

Ten transdisciplinary projects were granted a total of approximately 40 million SEK. The projects involved participants from 31 organizations, including universities, artistic enterprises, private companies, and public and non-profit organizations. Municipalities across Sweden took part in six of the projects. All projects brought together researchers and artists, representing a wide range of artistic perspectives and practices.<\/p>\n

The call was initiated by Statens konstråd in collaboration with Formas, the Swedish National Heritage Board, ArkDes, and the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n
