How can we design for sustainable, inclusive and thriving smaller communities? Together we explore what research says about the role of design in planning and developing communities.<\/p>\n

Many design professionals are trained for urban environments, but how can methods be adapted for less densely populated areas? Do planning tools for housing, services, and community development work the same way in small towns and villages as they do in cities?<\/p>\n

Nils Björling, Associate Professor in Urban Design at Chalmers, who researches urban and regional transitions, will guide us through the role of design in smaller communities. The session concludes with a collaborative workshop.<\/p>\n

\nJenny Grettve, Strategist for Future Economic Structures at the design agency When!When!, will guide us through a workshop based on the work with the Doughnut Model in Tomelilla as an example of local transition.<\/p>\n

ArkDes’ new Design Bar explores contemporary challenges through design methods. Each session starts with a lecture or panel discussion, followed by a workshop for deeper engagement with the topic. The Design Bar initiative highlights the power of design in shaping a sustainable future.
