Future city

26 March - 21 April 2013

Using creativity, teamwork and problem-solving, students build the city of the future.

In the Future City competition, students in school years 6-9 build cities in the computer game Minecraft, write essays and build models. ArkDes plays host to the exhibition and the final.

After the regional finals in Uppsala, Växjö, Stockholm and Lund, the competition was finally won by Viktor Rydbergs Samskola. The jury’s explanation: “With a holistic approach to social, ecological and economic sustainability, the city succeeds in linking together innovative infrastructure solutions with futuristic technology.”

In second place was Karl-Oskarskolan from Växjö, with Flens Kristna Skola in third place.

The competition was organised by parties including the Swedish Society of Energy and Environmental Technology, the Swedish Federation of Consulting Engineers and Architects, the Swedish Construction Federation and the Swedish Transport Administration.
