Open call for guest-researchers 2023 – ArkDes collection

Daycare for children of workers at Cloetta, Ljungsbro, Linköping. 1947. Henry Fraenkel. ArkDes collection.

ArkDes is seeking guest researchers who will have the opportunity to explore the museum’s collection of over four million objects.

Ahead of the opening of a new collection exhibition in 2024, we invite researchers to contribute with research-based perspectives and selections of objects. The assignment runs for a period of three to six months and aims to develop both the exhibition and the research conducted at ArkDes.

We are offering financial support to up to four guest researchers with the ambition of enabling new ways of studying, questioning, and interpreting the cultural heritage held in the museum’s storage. The assignment is expected to begin in spring or autumn 2023.

We are particularly interested in project proposals that address:

  • Women in architecture, landscape architecture, or interior design during the 20th century
  • The relationship between design and Sámi culture
  • ArkDes’ photography and film collections
  • The built environment of the 19th century, for example world’s fairs
  • Industrial towns and communities in Sweden

Guest researchers will work on site in ArkDes’ research room, take part in regular research seminars, and present their work at the annual ArkDes Research Seminar.
