Open call for guest-researchers 2022 – ArkDes collection

Susanne Tucker, 1911–2008. Swedish Design Lighting, exhibition in Chicago. 1950s. Photographer unknown. ArkDes collection.

ArkDes is seeking guest researchers who will have the opportunity to explore the museum’s collection of over four million objects.

In 2024, ArkDes will open a brand-new permanent exhibition based on material from the museum’s collections. As part of this work, we are inviting researchers to contribute with new perspectives, narratives, and selections of objects. The assignment runs for three to six months and aims to support the development of both the exhibition and research at ArkDes.

We are offering financial support to up to six guest researchers, with the ambition of enabling new ways to study, question, and interpret the cultural heritage stored in the museum’s archives. The assignment is expected to begin in spring or autumn 2022.

We welcome project proposals that address:

  • Women working in architecture, landscape architecture, or interior design during the latter half of the 20th century
  • Sámi architecture and design
  • Transnational architecture

Guest researchers will work on site in the ArkDes research room, take part in regular research seminars, and present their work at the annual ArkDes Research Seminar.
