Duodji & the flow of materials
In parallel with the work of exposing the books in the Girjegumpi, Joar Nango has also focused on creating a mobile library that people can come and explore. An important aspect has been to include the traditional knowledge and in Sámi culture, there is a term for handicrafts called Duodji.
“Duodji is the most autonomous Sámi cultural skill set that we actually have. I thought that as a part of the Girjegumpi it would be nice to develop an interior that included some of these traditions but also trying to renew them. Use the space as an open-ended format where we can investigate and renew our traditions in an innovative way.”
