Talk: Exhibiting architecture
During the year, ArkDes has begun work on a new permanent exhibition about architecture in Sweden. Now we are starting a series of talks about the history of Arkdes, the road to the first permanent exhibition and the challenges and opportunities that we meet in our work today. The first two discussion partners are former directors of Arkitekturmuseet (the Swedish Museum of Architecture), as Arkdes was previously known, Bengt O. H. Johansson and Jöran Lindvall.
With this series of talks, ArkDes wants to give the public insight into the explorative and open work process and welcomes all participants to actively join in the discussion.
The two former directors of the Swedish Museum of Architecture, Bengt O. H. Johansson and Jöran Lindvall, are both pioneers in the field. Their collective experience of leading the museum spans from the mid-1960s to the beginning of the 2000s. How was work performed during this long and expansive time, what questions influenced the museum activities? How has the museum’s different functions and responsibilities, such as collection, exhibition, education, monitoring contemporary trends and debate changed over time? What stance has the museum taken to international developments in the field and to the growing circuit of museums, biennials and galleries that specialise in architecture?
The talk will be led by Thordis Arrhenius (associate professor, KTH Royal Institute of Technology) and Christina Pech (research coordinator, ARKDES), both have conducted research on the history of the Swedish Museum of Architecture.
Please note that the talk will be recorded for documentation purposes.
The talk will last approximately one hour and will be held in the library at Arkdes. Enter through the museum garden/Café Blom.
Beverages and snacks will be served in Café Blom from 17.15.
