ArkDes Talks: Muslim Cool

ArkDes Talks: Muslim Cool was an evening at ArkDes (the Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design) with a focus on the latest in Muslim fashion, in Sweden and internationally. Here, the latest trends and movements in this area of fashion are discussed, as well as how the West, and not least the Swedish fashion industry, has been influenced by Muslim fashion.

The term “Muslim Cool” is taken from Leila Karin Österlind’s thesis project which investigates fashion designers’ strategies and creation of trends. Products and services geared specifically towards various Muslim target groups are a global industry today. Just like other fashion scenes, the Muslim fashion scene – or Islamic fashion as it is known internationally – is a dynamic arena in which new trends and expressions are constantly emerging.

Collaborators: Anna Åkerlund, journalist and producer for Stil on Radio Sweden’s channel P1, Imam Aldebe, Swedish designer, Mariam Moufid, Swedish Instagram star (alias: hijabmuslim), Leila Karin Österlind, PhD in Ethnology at Stockholm University, Agnes Grefberg Braunerhielm, Rodeo.
